A survey was commissioned by two plastic surgery Societies to study their experience and treatment choices for their patients who have PIP implants.
210 plastic surgeons responded regarding 10,485 patients. Almost 70% of the patients were explanted. 25% of the patients showed implant failure. It would be expected to increase over time. Patients who refused this explanation were encouraged to have regular check ups.
Almost 1/3 of the patients requested increased volume or mastopexy. Less than 1% requested a change to saline breast implants. No implants or fat grafting occurred in 5 ½%.
