I perform a variety of treatments and surgeries in Newport Beach , Orange County to enhance , restore and rejuvenate the female genital region. This includes procedures to improve moisture, and sensitivity and tighten the vaginal canal; enhance orgasm and restore or improve the appearance of the vulva including the labia minora, labia majora, the clitoral region and the vestibule of the vagina. The mons pubis can also be improved with techniques noted below. There are many names for these procedures which include: Designer Vagina, Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, LVR, Monsplasty, Labiaplasty, Labia Rejuvenation, Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery, Aesthetic Vaginal Sugery, Perineoplasty, and Hymenoplasty. Vaginal Enhancement Surgery is basically cosmetic surgery of a woman’s “Private Parts” or genital region.
Women have a wide range of normal color, texture, size and asymmetries of their genitilia. This is true of the Vulva and all of its parts, the same as other parts of the body.
Candidates for treatment include women concerned about the appearance of their genitals , or those who experience discomfort, pain or difficulty with sexual relations. The specific problems are noted below in each section. These problems may exist at birth or with growth and development. They can occur with childbirth or other trauma to the region. All of these issues can cause a woman great emotional distress that is often difficult to talk about with their partner, friends and even their doctor.
Board Certified Plastic Surgeons may have experience and training in performing these surgeries. Training in reconstructive genital surgery and transgender surgery along with experience in aesthetic procedures, provide Plastic Surgeons with special skills to perform these operations. Some gynecologists and uro-gynecologists have special interest and training in this aspect of women’s care.
Labialplasty is probably the most common of the Vaginal Enhancement procedures. A candidate for a Labiaplasty procedure is concerned about the appearance of her labia or she may experience pain and discomfort from large, long or uneven labia; usually of the inner lips or labia minora. This may result in chronic rubbing, which leads to difficulty in wearing tight clothing , such as leggings; tight shorts and bathing suits can reveal a “Camel Toe” which can be corrected with treatment. Enlarged or uneven labia may have a significant psychological impact and severely affect normal sexual relations. Many women live with this problem unaware that there are treatments available to help them. Non-surgical treatments with Thermiva radiofrequency can reduce the labia for some patients. Surgery is the most common treatment and this problem can usually be corrected in under one hour with a local anaesthetic. Many women feel more comfortable and relaxed with a quick twilight or general anaesthetic. Each procedure is customized to the physical findings as well as the desired goals of the patient. Some procedures may include treatment of the clitoris or clitoral hood to further enhance this region. The “trim procedure” is a straight incision along the edge of the labia to reduce excess tissue. A “wedge” is the removal of a triangular shaped part of the labia with the remaining parts placed together to look completely normal. There are “modified wedges” and Barbie Doll procedures as well as other varieties of treatment. The Barbie Doll reduces much of the Labia Minora so that it is not visible beyond the Labia Majora. There is no one right solution for all patients, but there is a solution for every woman. The outcome of a Labiaplasty is a more youthful appearance, ability to wear all types of clothing without discomfort and/or embarrassment, and a more confident sex life.
Review
Revison surgery for labiaplasty may be requested to remove more tissue: make the labia more even.; correct over reductions; treat adhesions between parts of the vulva; improve the appearance of color, texture, and scars after previous treatment. Revisions are generally possible but, as with other surgeries, revision becomes more difficult than the initial first operation. These should be performed by a surgeon experienced with Cosmetic Female Genital Surgery. You should wait at least 6 months for the initial surgery to resolve. Tissues need to heal and soften before they are re-operated upon.
Candidates of Vaginal Rejuvenation or Vaginoplasty surgery are women who desire a more youthful appearance and function of the vulva and vaginal area. For some women, the effects of childbirth, aging, trauma, and/or genetics, causes their vaginal tissue and muscles to become stretched, which results in loss of strength and tone in the vaginal area. This may result in decreased intimacy and sexual satisfaction. In some cases, the laxity of tissues can be visible.
The lining of the vagina can be reduced, removing excess and redundant mucosa decreasing the diameter of the canal. The muscle ring , pubococcygeus, at the entrance or introitus can be tightened. These procedures along with exercises such as Kegles can help keep the muscle tone in this area. Aesthetic Vaginoplasty, in many cases, can increase friction during intercourse, giving women more control of vaginal muscles, increasing sexual satisfaction, while also creating a more attractive and appealing appearance to the vaginal area.
Vaginoplasty and labiaplasty may be carried down to the area below the Vulva and above the anus, the perineum. This area may be irregular from childbirth or previous trauma. It can be corrected with excision and closure to further enhance the region.
Less commonly, patients will present for correction of the outer Lips or the Labia Majora. They may either be too large or too small or sometimes deflated with age or weight loss. Reduction can be accomplished with an incision on the inner or outer side depending upon the anatomy for the patient. Enlargement can be performed with fat grafting which will provide a fuller more youthful appearance.
The hymen is just within the entrance to the vagina, the introitus, and may have excessive remnants. These can cause concerns because of their appearance or sensation. They can become irritated and uncomfortable. They can be removed or trimmed with a simple procedure. The hymen can also be reconstructed. This is termed revirgination or revirginization. This is common in some cultures and is commonly requested before marriage.
Excess fullness of the Pubic mound, or Mons Pubis, can be caused by weight gain, pregnancy or genetics. Excess weight or weight loss can lead to drooping or ptosis. These can be treated by one or a combination of liposuction, excision and lifting. This will provide a flatter more youthful appearance with less excess bulge and drooping in this area. The region will look much better both in and out of clothing. These pubic treatments are frequently performed with abdominoplasty.
The intended results of cosmetic labia and vaginal surgery are to create a youthful appearance and enhanced erotic sensation. These treatments can remove physical and psychological discomfort.

Generally, patients are able to walk comfortably within a few days and can return to work within a week.
Patients return to most normal activities immediately after surgery with the exception of activities that will create direct pressure on the area, such as certain exercise equipment and sexual activity. It will be necessary to refrain from these forms of physical activity, including sex, for approximately 4-6 weeks.
Postoperative care will usually consist of sitz baths or soaking the area in warm soapy water starting approximately 2 days after a surgery. The sutures will dissolve over the course of several weeks. Swelling can persist for two or three months. Ice can help reduce swelling.
The specific risks and suitability of these procedures for each individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare. These can include infection, bleeding , separation of the incision, changes in sensation , pain, increased sensitivity, unsatisfactory cosmetic results
With the availability of recent technology, there are few nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation options available for our patients. CO2 fractionated lasers include the FemiLift, MonaLisa Touch and IntimaLase. The ThermiVa as radiofrequency energy that can also treat the outer Labia to reduce and tighten this area.
It can increase blood flow, sensitivity , and orgasm. It can increase moisture and decrease stress urinary incontinence for many women.
PRP ( Platelet Rich Plasma ) can be added to these procedures which may make a difference in the outcome. It can be injected into the vaginal mucosa to increase circulation and vaginal health , O-shot. PRP can also be used for a “G” Shot which is injected into the G-spot.
Costs for non-surgical laser vaginal rejuvenation are approximately 3000 – for 3 sessions. Twice yearly or yearly follow up treatments are recommended to maintain vaginal health. If PRP is being added there is an additional $1000-1200 per treatment session.
