As seen in Time Magazine

“You’re going to have to do it. And not all that long from now. Probably not a full-on, general-anesthesia bone shaving or muscle slicing.
But almost definitely some injections into your face. Very likely a session of fat melting in some areas and then possibly moving it to some other parts that could use plumping. Not because you hate yourself, fear aging or are vain. You’re going to get a cosmetic procedure for the same reason you wear makeup: because every other woman is.”
This is not just true of women, as the article points out. We have seen such a large increase in the number of men requesting and undergoing cosmetic procedures, notably, laser hair removal, botox, (brotox), fillers , and non-surgical fat reduction/body contouring. Surgical procedures such as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), liposuction and rhinoplasty still make up about ten percent of the patients having these procedures.
The increased trend is so large that we have expanded BioSpa, our medical spa to BioSpa for Men which focuses on the special needs and desires of our Southern California Men. We are the first and only Medical Spa in Orange County to focus on the special needs and desires of our male patients. These patients include businessmen and professionals, young affluent men concerned with appearance, body aware men, who work out frequently and want the best physical features possible for their body, and our gay patients who also fall into the aforementioned categories of patients.
My associate, Larry Nichter MD, is noted in the article:
“Nichter, who has fading, thin white hair and a calm, gentle demeanor, is known for the LiteLift surgery, a variation on a mini-face-lift, which he and his partner (Dr. Jed Horowitz) created. With a LiteLift, Hall could avoid an operating room and general anesthesia. Instead she could take an antianxiety pill, get a local anesthetic, have a short incision hidden behind her ear and be done in two hours right in his office.”
The article wrongly compares the procedure to the Lifestyle Lift, which was run in a multi clinic national chain, each doctor performing their own variation of a lift.
Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery is boutique clinic associated with BioSpa Medical Spa , both owned and operated by myself, Jed Horowitz MD and Larry Nichter MD. The Lite Lift is a limited incision facelift with completed muscle correction underneath the skin in a direct vertical lift. We do perform the procedure under local anaesthetic commonly but offer our patients twilight or general anaesthesia as preferred or indicated.
This easier, simpler modification of a facelift has also been more accepted by our male patients. The recovery is quicker and incisions more limited and well hidden.
The statistics in the article , “workers with above-average looks will make $230,000 more over their lifetime than people who are in the aesthetic bottom seventh, as a study by University of Texas economics professor Daniel Hamermesh found” apply to men as well. This has been noted in the Wall Street Journal quoting studies from both Yale and Harvard several years ago. Salaries , in fact, are often 9% higher per year according to these studies. This implies that nip/tuck/fill and freeze is a worthwhile investment.
So, as reported in Times, it would appear that we all have Nip Tuck Or Else in our futures, we may as well embrace and enjoy.
